Lol went out with friend n former Wa Wa Tech chemistry competition (lol) Amy for some fun in the ever warm and inviting Chicago/Aurora Winter.

Both days were definitely a fun time. Here we went out to the fun old Trolley Bridge for a lil bit before heading off to the mall and Fox n Hound for a great evening of fun and friends.

Met up with the Lovely Jacqueline down in Wilmington last week for some fun winter shots :)

As you may have guessed, no that was not the temperature of the shoot lol, but it sure was the turn we made :) . Started out with me getting to explore a decent amount of the beautiful Illinois territory (read, wrong exit lol) luckily I had left way early in an attempt to get there way early to scout the area out. Jacqueline too had a little trouble, briefly getting a little lost and stuck in some snow. Alas we finally met and set off on a very fun and productive shoot making a complete turn around.

Even though she's horribly dated by any modern standards (well what camera of mine isn't :( ) But the D1h is such a great B&W digital.

All these photos are straight from the camera :) The way the D1h is set up it gives an almost film like feel, and when you crank it and shoot at 6400 it gives a nice random like grain noise, Tri-x remniscent almost. And see, I do shoot more than Cars and People :)

Okay so yeah this couldn't be a post with out a person. And this is none other than the ever lovely Lauren. After going out for some good eats at Elmers we made our way out to the good ole Oakhurst FP :)

This semester really just went so fast it wasn't until Monday during a Christmas shoot that I realized.... Oh Yeah Christmas is Saturday haha

Todays shoot was too funny... That innocent little peaceful dog, lol... peaceful... Lets just say I witnessed her destroy a loufa in about 5 minutes flat. When she wasn't running about, she was quite the calm and well mannered lil one that ya see in these two shots. Definitely a fun day :)

FIGHT CLUB

This was definitely an interesting shoot to say the least. For our Color Photo class we had to recreate scenes from a movie of our choosing. And well ended up with these. I shot most of the shoot with the Hassy and will eventually get the better film shots up here when I get access to a medium format scanner. But just a crazy night of fun.

Macaroni factories can also be great places to shoot. Met up with some great Chicago area photographers over Thanksgiving break and shot a little in an old factory on the south side that's slowly getting turned into artist studios.

This place was definitely a blast to shoot in. I just love industrial and rugged places, maybe that's why I'm in Industrial Engineering???. But you gotta admit they do make sweet places for photos. Had a blast with the models from UR Supermodels. They were fun and really easy to work with and overall we all had a great time!

And last but certainly not least. A film photo's from my latest pickup, a great condition Hasselblad 500 C/M with an 80 2.8 lens. Really lovin the square format and the overall robust/no bs kinda attitude this camera has. It's light, tough and fun. More photos to come as I get them scanned in after finals.

Today was a lot of fun, Despite to chilly november winds we came back with some fun images.

While this may seem simple, you shoulda seen the wind we were havin to deal with here. This is in an old ally way Dt A-town so basically we were shooting in a wind tunnel here. Nearly lost the lightstands with just bare strobes so yeah it was blowing haha.

Lol, but for reals I did meet this girl at a bar. Brynn had just been an subject of photographs and talk about the CP dept. but wasn't until this weekend that I finally met the elusive "Brynn".

Definitely glad I got to meet her before she graduates this year, really a cool and fun person, and she wanted to learn how to work on her car. Gotta respect that. Changed the front rotors and pads.

Met up with good friends Katie and Marina in St Louis the other day for a fun shoot. Happened to talk to a friend the day before and found out that the Challenger, the worlds largest operating Steam Engine would also be intown, so off we went :)

Today was a ton of fun and sights like this throughout the shoot were pretty regular. Still can't believe no one died either haha, those shoes had to have been pretty wicked on the ballast.

I really like how this shot came out, when I have access to Photo show I'll reduce that vignette as I can finally clea up the background. But those three officers were great though. When shooting the closer up work they helped to keep a clear background. Man I felt legit :)

I couldn't have asked for more, it was an awesome day, I mean Kate and Marina drove in from Mizzou to shoot. Its just an awesome feeling to know you have friends that supportive of what you do.

After work today went out shooting with Heather Anne for our first "Indoors" shoot. Brought along a longtime friend Ally and co-worker John and we went to work in Plainfield :)

Started off with the whole Car shoot so that was fun and interesting. Never really lit big things while lighting people. Done cars and people before but not at the same time.

Then it was off to the shop in the basement and got some Datto shots and this pinup/glamor shot. Go industrial fans :)

Then the girls disappeared for a "Minute" really like a half n hour haha and then reappeared.... Hello 1984

I can't begin to express how helpful it was to have John out there with me. I had been working with John for a while this summer on the some accounting works and well photography came up, so I invited him out and his help was invaluable. Having someone to hold the fan, move lights was awesome!

Went out today after work and shot some images for the story I've been runnin with all summer. Needed some military shots and well Hoffmans had a nice 1973 M35A2 Duece n Half in the yard and after a quick call I was all good to shoot on, in and around it :)

After that we picked up Alison and the 4 of us headed off in the lil Dato off to an old Driving range and shot in the field of flowers out front. lol not to think of it, that's the first time I've ever filled the Datsun up with people.

Definitely sounds like the making for a great wedding :) And a great wedding it was. Sat this one out for the most part and just relaxed and watched as my good friends Alex & Rae came together in union out in the sticks on a beautiful lake with great friends and fam abound.

For a second there it seemed like the day would be foiled, but the rain never came, instead a beautiful sun shone through the sky and the wedding went on beautifully. Favorite part of this photo has to be Travis looking on at me through the umbrella

Lyssy is a great artist and has been dabbling in the thoughts of maybe doing hair/mua or something along those lines so I’ve been wanting to try and get her out on a shoot for a while and today we finally did. It was definitely a fun time shooting around Montgomery and Aurora, and we even dragged Lauren (Lyssys Sis) out for the second half haha. Upon completion of the second job of the day I hopped back into the datto and headed North through the aftermath. A fun night and a grand day awaiting my arrival.

With this weeks rather dismal but needed rain it was hard to believe we got the break we did :). While driving out to pick up michele once again the skys let out but the spite was quick and reduced to just a sprinkle. And then as I was walking to her door out came that wondurous creation and out from the clouds finally peaked the sun. So we were off! Ended up shooting over in Aurora (Love that place). Totally had a blast too, so much catching up and good laughs. A great way to break up the rainy week, and as a plus got to do some work with the plentiful puddles!

She is a whole lot of fun, really cool girl for sure.

Well atleast that's how seems like it all came together lol...

A few weeks ago or so I was approached by one of the faculty members in Advertising that they were starting up a magazine and she'd love to have me work with them after seeing some of my work up in the hallway in the Com Building. So then this week run into her again she calmly lets me know we're shooting a fashion spread with the stores in the University Mall.

So there I find myself on Wednesday sitting down with Mandy who is handeling the models and clothing, and I find out we don't have a location picked out, or any stylists or anything lol. So after a quick walk around campus with Mandy we decide on our location, It gets okay'd through facilities but we don't get to see it till the next day, right at the start of the shoot. But it all worked out :)

What can I say... You can't help but love this girl. Hannah is just that kinda crazy fun, free, wild kinda gal that is just plain fun to chill and be around.

And with nearly living in the lab we ran into each other on fair occasion like seen here during a random impromptu, Oh snap hannah your face looks sweet in that light, kinda moment lol.

And then we ended up in a parking lot around 10pm on a friday evening later that week when she helped me out with my series project of laundry... Yeah I don't quite know how that happened or how I came up with it but I did and so there we were. The coolest kids in Cdale shooting with a laundry basket for an hour or so on a friday night.

Ah the south, gotta love these nice wam February days! Finally getting out and for the first time shooting down here :) . Yesterday I had the pleasure of going out and shooting with classmate and friend Shannon.

We started off with a fun drive off south then west then north and well actually never east so no circles at least. But finally decided on the location, An old Coal facility so with destination figured we were off! As is the risk with any last minute plans when we passed the location we saw there were people there so a little cruising around and we found ourselves at a nice little park area with beautiful colorful water and overall nice grounds and a dock.

After a bit off landscapery and odd dock settings we made our way back to and in to the old Coal Facility. And man was this place cool.

Through the winds and blinding snow of a beautiful Illi winter storm I pressed on in my 2000 lbs of 38 yr old steel. Ah gotta love coming home in the winter :) Especially when your friend also happens to be hosting a nice inside studio shoot.

Conrad was kind enough to offer up his beautiful home and his equipment in what turned out to be more of a fun photo chill day as the models of the day ended up being singular and actually a photographer at that.

So being the wild group that we are we took turns venturing out onto the other side of the lens.

Ah today was a most enjoyable day. Despite the cold weather and and kinda bland lighting of an overcast day in winter snow covered Os we made it work :)

Really as the more I shoot with Renee the more entertaining and very special faces she ends up making. But man when we aren't joking around and having too much fun man are we productive.

So on this fine snow covered day we headed out to the ever expansive Richard Young Forrest Preserve today to go out and make some fun winter shots. Picked Renee up and we were off, walking, talking, shooting, keeping eyes out for an injured deer and attempting to avoid owls.

It was def a good one. We shot for a good 2-3hrs out there in the cold then made our way to get some warmth, food and review the work of today.

Haha, wow kinda fell off here but no fear today will be the mass uploading of all that's happened this year haha.

So today Alison and I took a lil trip out to Plano to try and capture one of the many ideas that have been rolling around my mind.

The STL..... The sides of East and West

Well last weekend was a trip to the North so we have to go West this time right? Well that lead me to the interesting place I like to call the STL, or St. Louis as some of you may know it as. The place of not much city, Awesome parks, good friends and Church's Chicken lol.

One of the many boarded up storefronts in the downtownish area of East Stl

I spent the first half of the trip exploring a little of the Illi side of Stl, also known as East St. Louis. It truly is an interesting and beautiful, in a tragic sense. The once great architecture and neighborhoods slowly fading away back into dust and in some case's small prairie fields and miniature forests. It's really interesting to see nature reclaiming what we had taken from her.

From there I made it back to the Highway and over the Bridge in to the Stl to pick up Jenny for lunch. We took a decent lil time cruising about the area and I really must say it is a pretty sweet town. It's city city is way closer to the suburbs it seems, it goes basically from city to Aurora like really quick which is kinda cool, but after dinner and chilling it was off to meet Katie at the park and do a lil shooting :)

These images really hide how dark it really was out. It was about 5ish while taking these so real low level soft warm light, but man does that low light work awesome. Also gotta love f1.4 haha

Once the sun had finally dropped we made our way towards the city to do some city scene shots but ended up just shooting around in the parking garage and Metrolink station down by the Arch :)

And for being lit just by the ambient Sodium,Mercury or whatever ugly lamps and one lone overhead flourescent I was really excited to see how the light actually worked and well, came out really nice.... It's awesome when mixed ugly lamps can make something beautiful, and not full of odd color casts to boot!

Well it was finally that fine fall holiday, that's right... Halloween
And with it came candy, entertainment and some good times with friends. I had made the trip north to pick up some colder clothes since I'm staying south for the Fall Break since we're having food with the fam in Stl. While I was north though I did get in a lil side project, a little fall shooting :)

Finally after a a week of chaotic studying,reading and overall loss of soul and fun the weekend appeared. And for the first time I finally really just went out and shot for fun. Not for an assignment or gig, just for fun, and so began the weekend with the oddest convoy ever imagined and ending with a hike in the woods and fields and finally me in the kitchen with a Gas Mask and some grape drink.... Needless to say it was a good weekend.

The weekend began with a meeting of sorts out in our lawn. Like a true trailer home we now had 6 cars out front... To tell the truth I was kinda proud haha. After the ritual washing and route planing we took off the ever strong Cappy taking the lead... after a beautiful 15 minute run though the lovely fall foliage of the So Il we made it to our destination, Rt 57, and we soon made temporary home at an old Gas station for a few shots and to finalize the order and the exits.

And with the final detailing and cleaning of rims and paint we were off down the road, with 4 miles for me to try and figure out how to shoot a moving vehicle. Oh it was fun.

With less than a quarter mile before the exit the cappy was finally cleared to move into position, and then we were off back down the side roads to take a few photo's by the dam.

And of course with me what would be a day with out a portrait, Mike in his normal Drab.... Ok maybe it was unofficial, perhaps??? Wander/Hiker's a pretty good look for em dontcha think?

And then came Sunday... A nice relaxed day of well, relaxing and then a hike out in Giant City with Em n Julie. From the rocks n tree's we made our way to the freer and more open expanse of the fields and found millet, grass and cool looking tree's.

While walking around it was definitely evident of how wild that storm back in the spring was as there were still ton's of downed tree's along with broken overlooks and stairways. None the less we pressed on and continued our lil hike around.

And then the sun began to drop below the bluff, so we made way to the field to get some nice setting sun shots in.

I even took a break and tried that whole Nature photography thing. Backlit subjects are sooooooooo awesome!!!

And yeah I just really really liked the way the branches of the tree were all curvy, and the leaves were really sweetly colored as well.

While it definitely add's to the workload it's a load of fun. Along side that whole workload thing I have managed to maintain a life and that's also kinda why there hasn't been anything since the end of September, what can I say life's been busy. So here's a little look at what I've been upto... Let's just say it's been a fun run filled with a trip to the Stl, Redneck Hottubs, Gangsters, Mathletes and well of course Photos :)

It all kinda started off with a trip to the Stl. I went out to that fine lil city with Pgen and we visited the Art Museum, Sculpture Park and the Loop. It was really a fun day, got to scout around and really work up some ideas for a shoot I want to go do over there. Still hopin it'll happen this month but we'll see... Maybe working in the cold of november will be cool too? Just not to sure bout the Nimh's and the Flash Batteries.... While the Magnesium bodies of the Canon's make em robust and uber beastly they also have a tendency to catch cold and well batteries plus cold = short shoots. Really want to pull of a Fashion/Coat shoot some urban/grunge life style photos ya dig? On with the pictures :)

Then last week entered the fun of being an engineering student.... Redneck Hottubs baby! We built a make shift backing board to fill up the bed of Mikes' truck. For the heating unit Vs 1.0 did something but not as effective as we'd like. We used some copper tubing intertwined with the Exhaust manifold and a submersible pump but it just wasn't enough. Even with putting the copper hose on a grill we were loosing too much heat in the transfer hose so shorter hose and more copper might be the way to go.

Finally the Photography... Just a little excerpt from what we did wednesday. We were using Canon flashes to learn about the FP and Second Curtain mode. Not gonna lie having a 580ex II on the 1Ds was nice, really easy to use, but I still like my older Nikon Sb's. Manual! haha. Also a photo or two from the week before when we did some studio shooting Gangsters and Mathletes two totally related Idea's right? haha man I love that class

It's been a crazy 3 Weeks though that's no lie. Kinda fell behind after getting hit with a bunch of Hours at CAT and Michaels and then alot of free time going into pulling off the "More Models, More Light" Shoot for YLPSDW! at a local Jr High School. But lets us take a look back at what all went down those fine last weeks of July :).

Were'd we leave off..... Ah yes the TTD shoot with Carolyn :) From there it was an amazing run of 7 different varied shoots. Starting off with a fine lil trip up to see Erin in lisle and get her some headshots

From relaxed and calm I stepped it up a lil bit with the fast paced and very fun Christine from Ok and her lovely local friend Michelle on wed. The two were a great pair to work with and definitely came back with some amazing images after working right into the middle of the night We explored the backside of Menards once again (Where the Carolyn TTD shoot was) and then headed back to the ole Jericho house which has been a great location for many a trips.

With the confirmation of another model for the shoot that Saturday, The grand YLPSDW Shoot at Traughber Jr High :) The shoot turned out to be a success, Despite the call offs on models and no show's the equal balance of photographers not being able to make it made for a great balance.

Then came a very fun and nice day for me, Photographing a close friends Engagement photo's over at Phillips Park.

Man this was too much fun. Got off work last friday got some good ole BK and then the shooting commenced. These are from a TTD shoot set up by my friend Karen Wade of Karen Wade Photography .

Shots were all taken with a Canon 1Ds, V4 triggers and a SB-28 on a monopod with an alcohol bottle diffuser and Straw Gel for warming/sun balancing

This weekend was pure photography pure entertainment. Startin off with headshots it progressed to locational portraits and tatoo's to straight goofin after gettin some White Castle at the Kmart Parkin lot. Then we headed in to have some fun in the toy aisle .

It all started with some fun lil Headshots for the Lime Light Theater Company.
Mike, when we saw this on the back of the camera we all thought...... CIVIL WAR ARNEY!!! haha and so an Edit was in order :)
And so Civil War Arney was created
While doing the shots of Nick the Main umbrella'd SB-28 got caught mid recycle but I really like how it came out with just the cross light.

From there it was the Epicfest also known as E n L day. A lovely day with the two equaly lovely Lauren and Emma :).

But I haven't been slackin on photo's that's for sure. Just the blog has suffered. It's been a really busy month here, with keeping YLPSDW goin and then side gigs alongside the normal Jobs at CAT and Michaels. Anyway's enough excuses here's a taste of what I've been upto lately :). It's been a wicked awesome month or so of YLPSDW! outings, Sr Photo's, a Wedding, Work Work Work and fun. And now I'm finally able to sit back catch up and get Tre-Four upto date. Yay for CAT vacation/shutdown. Two weeks of only 3 jobs lol.

YLPSDW Model shoot, Finally

Finally a second to post, It's been a ridiculously busy week even with the shutdown at CAT. Workin at Micheals, Mowing the Lawns Photo's gigs and of course the YLPSDW Model shoot, which happily went off with out any major hitches :) Man I'm so relieved and ubber happy that all went well and the images that are coming in are Awesome!

So with no further adieu here's a few from the shoot.

. Starting off in a record only 30 mins late we headed out to the First location, Plainfield Farm. Rolling into the dark cloudy and wet skys things were looking a bit iffy. In the end though the little sprinkle worked out amazingly. It kept the gravel road wet to keep our comings and goings hidden. And after the short bout while setting up and shooting in the barn it became a beautiful yet humid summer day :)

A Lantern warm n Bright

A Return to the Farm...

Last night on another one of my YLPSDW outings we made it back out to the farm with Clay and Becca attending with a crazy guest appearance of Scot or Kevin or whatever you decide to call him. Sadly great coldness and a shakin lil one made for a quick but entertaining shoot. But after dealing with the cold for a bit we made way to Chili's for warmth, Chips, and interesting coversation.

My ever fun and warm Lantern...... Soooooo can't wait till it's warm to do some sweet shots sort of like what we have here, but Outside :)
I like how this one came out, Yay for oldschool technology. Lit by Dietz Lantern and 1950's era Mining lantern aimed at angled ceiling behind her.

This is the shot that I want to do outside, have her lit about the same and have the lantern not blown out. So pop her with maybe a gelled strobe and have the house or a barn or something underexposed and looming in the backgroud. With her either looking on at it ( so me shooting from the side over her shoulder) from a distance and then one of her about to enter, or from the side of her like here.

I liked the really warm tones of the lantern and the wood wall, all with the way the light fell off really quickly and shaped her face was awesome.

Thanks again Becca for comin out and Clay, rock on token! Hopefully we'll start to get a bigger turnout for the outings :)

Wind, Water and the Wilderness

Today I went today with Veronica, we went to this little trail thing I've been lookin at for awhile, and despite the wicked wind we came back with a few sweet shots.
After dealin with the wind for long enough we headed back into town and picked up the lil one, Alison and headed out to Richard Young Forest Preserve for a little fun.

Hmmm must be another YLPSDW! Photo outing :) ...... Before mother nature decided to throw us a curve ball with this lovely coating of snow in April. Hugo, Clay and I took advantage of the nice weather we were given yesterday to explore a little (read, attempt) car photography and a lil nightime shooting and imagination free for all sessions (place was creepy at first), and that stupid knocking that we never did find a source for.

The attempts at action shots, Oh how I wish I would have panned. There's always nextime though right???

From the lot it was off in search of the elusive Slushy, which we never did get now that I think about it. So it was off to Wallyworld to find a battery, and supplies for the things to come. After an enlightening conversation with the sporting counter clerk that ammo goes like hotcakes we headed back to the car, battery and supply lacking. And here came Clay, and once again the Cappy rolled out, first to Ace (honestly, who closes at 6:30 on a saturday) and then to the Colonel for some good ole chicken. Once nourished our ontourage headed to Lowes and then Home Depot in seach for the even more elusive 918 Battery. On our hunt we did collect, a maglite, D batteries, electrical tape, a knife, and 2 smaller lantern batteries. And this is what we got.

I like the almost Lith feel to this one.

To finish up a nice Spring Break I headed down on an Epic trip with the Cappy. 340mi's later we were in the beautfiul town of Carbondale where I'm plannin on attending This fall for a Mech Engineering and Photography Major. Anyways here's a few from the trip :)

Spring Break Outtin with the Good ole YLPSDW

Tuesday was the 4th planned You Like Photo's So Do We! Facebook outing. While the turnout was what some would call "Small" the entertainment and fun definitely wasn't. We ended up heading out to North Aurora to pick up Amy and get some ever tasty BW's. After laughin, planin and contemplatin we made the goofiest Convoy with Manuels M3, Amys Sienna and Ma faithful Caprice over to Old Copley. From there we walked around and shot a lil bit. With a breif ghetto lesson on Off camera lighting. And now I give you the results of Meet IV.
